There is a wonderful saying in English “it grows on you”.
Something or someone that you have recently met develops into a real compatriot
fellow.
When I first came to England to continue my university
degree education, I became aware of this phrase at Manchester University
Campus. 1972 - I was so young age 18 leaving home town Adana and ending up at a
place so unfamiliar. Within 24 hours I felt a phenomenal transformation impact.
It was like metamorphosis, however I could not visualise whether I will fly or return
to the cocoon way back at home. I must admit that my parents were audacious,
daring and had a clear vision. I had to study abroad during those turbulent
time.
And the only possible path was to take an exam in Ankara for
those students seeking to pursue a university education course abroad. Which I
took and successfully passed the exam.
Back than communications was only possible by writing
letters. Therefore once I left my house it took me more than a month to be able
to establish a proper address and started sending/receiving information. Even
today, at this day and age isn’t it a tough decision to allow young children to
travel on their own to faraway places? May be harder given the conditions of
present world order.
I remember year’s later one misty night in1980, we managed
the first automatic call from Tahtakale Telephone Exchange in İstanbul to
Germany. Using CCITT R2 signalling protocol a locally designed electronic
equipment was successful in reaching out to Deutche Telecom’s circuits. How
clear & crisp the voice sounded to me at that instant.
Needless to say my 5 years abroad was enjoyable, full of
learning and experiencing every bit of time. University grew on me. Soon I was a confident candidate to
complete my electronics engineering degree. Playing chess for the university
team was an amazing pass time.
Now that we have all became acquainted with AI, we are more than attached to AI suggested ideas, proposals, solutions and an infinite number of cases where we seek advice. More & more we seem to depend on AI generated opinions.
Take a family of four. Sitting on a dinner table after a
long trying day. With all the smart gadgets online how many times a
conversation would be referred to AI? Nowadays any surface or a deep discussion
evolves around natural intelligence as
well as artificial intelligence.
Thus imagining eight individuals around the table is not an option but a
reality. All of a sudden we all have our invisible friends, advisors available
to tackle any form of doubtfulness, inconclusiveness and uncertainty.
AI is in the house
and growing very fast on everybody
First not only it
is administering and handling fundamental appliances, apparatus and machinery it
is also supervising effectiveness, guiding efficiency and taking care of
sustainment and preservation. No need to worry about resilience any more. “Ask
anything” is the name of the game.
Second AI is
winning the competitive race against NI in certain necessities. As children
search a query, advice, assistance or encouragement from parents, there appears
an instant challenge from their AI companion. Who and what to believe blurs.
The case applies to corporations just as well. Leaders will
face confrontation from employees AI friends. Therefore who is talking argument
may turn into a confusion?
Is it AI or NI?
Should we leave the floor to AI friends to come up with a
definitive explanation, clarification? I have sincere hesitation on doing so.
It is not disbelief, reluctance or skepticism. Left alone and powered it will
take ages to agree even on simple matters. Thus intervention from NI should
always be there to interrupt an infinite encounter and skirmish.
Third AI is growing on you as a thrusted associate.
Therefore to handle situations, where more soft side thoughts, like feelings,
are involved, there needs careful consideration. Practise caution, simply
because to let the reins free, is not an option. Since a claim cannot be acknowledged
and defended instantly, judgement should be nearby for on-the-spot occurrences.
Forth will AI evolve
to ASI growing on you gradually, thus acting as roommates, classmates
and comrades? Pushing NI to the side, will not be limited to cumbersome tasks.
This is when the rubber meets the road. Before all hell breaks loose
you should hold on to the steering wheel. Guide with respect, decisions with an
AI influence may have consequences beyond every day life.
Moment of truth is when, AI/NI assume togetherness in duty,
role and power. Shoulder-to-Shoulder, eagerly and willingly take charge to
embrace challenges. Carry and endure specific obligations to steer towards
goodness for yourself, family, business and humanity.
Trip down the memory lane to very first telecom calls from
Tahtakale İstanbul to Berlin in 1980, it is absolutely amazing to witness how
the foundation has now evolved to shape humanities new horizons.
Final words: Now that AI is in the house;
AI/NI are not rivals they are to deliver results for the
tasks undertaken to clear obstacles for future generation’s benevolence.
