Once upon a time, our children were at the age of having fun in the vibrant theme parks. I remember those joyful amusement park rides consisting of rotating circular platforms with seats. Traditionally built in the form of colourful wooden or plastic horses that also move up and down. These carousels provide lively entertainment with music, children forever enjoy one of the most attractive recreations.

Full of laughter and pleasure yet it is totally safe. Adjusted to a constant slow speed with each turn reaching exactly at the same duration to the location where the parents are watching. As they leave parents standing with curiosity, a little bit of uneasiness may creep in. Yet Inside they are confident, as the rotation continues and reaching back to the point where all have started, certainty encompasses the mind.

Children love it, how about professionals?

Will this experience illustrate or demonstrate much talked about sustainability?

Or does this mean a constant monotonous corporate cycle with little delight and excitement?

Türkiye'nin İlkleri Burada Yaşandı İlk Televizyon Yayını (1952):

Türkiye'nin ilk televizyon yayını, İTÜ'lü akademisyenler ve öğrenciler tarafından Gümüşsuyu Kışlası'nın çatı katında kurulan vericilerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Mimari Özellikleri Dikdörtgen planlı (104x124 metre) binanın ortasında geniş bir avlu yer alır. Dolmabahçe'ye bakan doğu cephesi, arazinin eğiminden dolayı bodrumla birlikte 4 katlı, Gümüşsuyu Caddesi'ne bakan batı cephesi ise 2 katlıdır. Doğu girişindeki görkemli mermer kitabede Sultan Abdülaziz'in adı yer almaktadır.

İTÜ Makina Fakültesi'ne ev sahipliği yapan Gümüşsuyu Kışlası'nın tarihi, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun askeri modernleşme dönemine, 1840'lı yıllara dayanmaktadır. Yapının işçi konutundan üniversiteye uzanan tarihi serüveni şu şekildedir:

Kuruluş ve İnşa Süreci (1840 - 1862)İlk Adım (1840): Bina ilk olarak Tüfekhane-i Amire (Devlet Tüfek Fabrikası) bünyesinde çalışan bekâr işçilerin yatakhane ihtiyacı için tasarlanmıştır.

Kışlaya Dönüşüm (1843): Bölgenin askeri bir merkeze dönüşmesiyle birlikte saray mimarı Garabet Amira Balyan tarafından ilk kışla yapısı tamamlanmıştır.

İşgal Dönemi ve İTÜ'ye Devri (1920) İngiliz İşgali: 1920 yılında İstanbul'un İşgali sırasında, o dönem Halıcıoğlu'nda bulunan Yüksek Mühendis Mektebi (bugünkü İTÜ) binası İngiliz askerleri tarafından işgal edilmiştir.

Okula Tahsis Edilmesi: Eğitimleri aksayan Türk öğrencilere ve okula geçici olarak Gümüşsuyu Kışlası tahsis edilmiştir. Kurtuluş Savaşı'nın ardından bina tamamen üniversitenin mülkiyetine geçmiştir.

In one of my recent posts I have talked about traditional management styles where transparency and open communications is not practised. I emphasised how in normal times these barriers have caused severe damage to large corporations as well as medium and small enterprises. I named these gate keeper as chestnut and hazelnut officers rather than leaders. Now I want to touch base on an even greater exposure which can lead to uncertainty and instability in situations when catastrophe strucks.

When businesses suffer from economic turn arounds the easiest path to trace is usually downsizing. Many attractive acronyms are invented to comfort those who are leaving. These varying statement also takes the responsibility of the shoulders of leaders.  Here are some examples, right sizing, restructuring, repositioning, customer alignment any many more cuddly pronouncements are recycled over the course of management history.

You Touch, You Play – Double Touch

Let’s continue with the beauty of chess stories. There are so many minute yet very clever moves that are so intricate which may make the difference between winning & losing.

One of those imperatives is; once you touch a piece you are required to make a move with that piece. There is no way to take back you decision and attempt to make a move with another material. Unless of course the piece you have touched has legally allowed spaces to advance. Once you let go the action is completed and the piece cannot be touched again until the competitor completes their turn of play.

I was watching the @Netflix Documentary Queen of Chess and realised that this situation occurred at a major tournament. Thus the "double touch" incident refers to a controversial 1994 chess match between Grandmaster Garry Kasparov and female chess prodigy Judit Polgár.

I am very close to reaching quinquagenary year of my corporate lifespan. Fifty years of engineering, management & leadership. It was full of sparkling successes as well as dismal disappointments. Maturing from an inexperienced young spearhead engineer to a thoughtful & knowledgeable mentor. Although this period was memorable it was always demanding.

Witnessed an immense era where historical episodes were written highlighting transformation cycles. One thing was certain, stability never lasted for more than a brief period. It was resembling the famous economist Nicolai Kondratieff sequences. He has defined the phases in four stages. Prosperity, Recession, Depression, and Improvement. These terms describe long-term fluctuations in prices, interest rates, and overall economic growth. Nowadays paramount differences are shorter, deep valleys and higher peaks crop up instantly. Decisions are squeezed into nick of time. So called an impulse function not like the smooth curves of Kondratieff curves.

I must have been lucky to have chosen electrical & electronic engineering which has bilateral relationship with all industries large and small. Learning customer business plan ahead of an offer is as crucial as always. Talking to the right section of an organisation has become a field expertise on its own.

What I am going to highlight, is a small percentage of involved; thus it is worth to acknowledge those who have dedicated their time and efforts for success. The reason behind my argument lies in the fact that a single example may set a precedence.

Latent Heat & Latent Need

He called this "Latent Heat" because it was "hidden" from the thermometer. It was there, doing work, but you couldn't see it until the phase change was complete. Once the transformation is complete instruments started to show the real change. Moving up or down depending whether heating or cooling is taking place.

How did this term evolved from thermodynamics to marketing?

The migration of the term "latent" from physics to marketing didn't happen in a single leap. It was a gradual "trickle-down" process that moved from the hard sciences into sociology and economics before finally becoming a cornerstone of modern marketing strategy.

I remember my university days when I came across the word latent. It was in the form of latent heat, as we were taking lectures (1975), at mechanical engineering department in University of Manchester. Electrical and Electronic Engineering building, looking west towards Brunswick Street was neighbouring; left side with mechanical engineering and right side with chemical engineering on Dover Street. I always considered that chemistry was never my cherished field of interest. Therefore I was meant to have a desire in physics and the building was located just across the road.

Now almost 50 years after graduation I still enjoy learning from respectful experts. Continue to educate leaders to embrace communities by appreciating their hidden ambitions and aspirations. This is where the word Latent starts to depict a path towards its journey to sales and marketing. Notably, why it has become a critical question continuously asked to new ventures, initiatives and start-ups?

First of all let’s dwell into the scientific explanation. I may be able to interpret the concept in its simplest illustration as shown above.

I had the privilege of attending an enlightening lecture delivered by Suat Basen at The Otto and Fran Walter Rotary Peace Center at Bahçeşehir University .

In his inspiring presentation, Suat Baysan took us on a journey that naturally aligns with Rotary’s mission of building peace:

• Wolfgang Pauli’s Nobel Prize (1945) and his Exclusion Principle — symbolized by serene golden wheat fields ,reminded us how fundamental laws create order and harmony in nature. Just as Pauli’s work brought clarity to quantum mechanics, true peace requires understanding and respecting the “rules” that govern human coexistence.
• The Standard Model of Elementary Particles (quarks, leptons, bosons like photons and gluons) illustrated the invisible forces that hold our universe together. In the same way, shared knowledge and scientific cooperation can hold humanity together, transcending borders and conflicts.

• The giants of the Quantum Realm ,Max Planck, Albert Einstein (E=mc²), Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Erwin Schrödinger ,showed how bold ideas and collaboration across nations and cultures drive progress. Many of these scientists lived through wars and used their intellect to seek a better world.
• The Metaverse — Timeless & Infinite , bridging the virtual and real worlds through platforms, sensors, data, digital twins, Web3, AI, and AR/VR. This vision points to a future where technology fosters global understanding, empathy, and dialogue ,powerful tools for peacebuilding, education, and reducing divisions.
He masterfully showed that science is not just about discovery ,it is about creating harmony. From the quantum level to the digital horizon, the principles of order, connection, and cooperation mirror the foundations of sustainable peace.

Digital Humanity – The End of Learn First/Do Later

- The biggest obstacle to your future isn't what you don't know. It's what you won't forget. We talk a lot about Upskilling, but we rarely talk about The Unlearning Syndrome.

- We are facing an "Unlearning Syndrome." The winners of 2026 won't just be the ones adding new skills; they will be the ones brave enough to delete the old ones.

Curiosity and courage are the only way forward.

How can Reskill/Upskill be achieved?

The rate of change of information is accelerating like a hyperbolic curve. Even observing or detecting the phenomena is representing a challenge. Yet not only the raw data need to be captured it has to be processed. Intelligence has to be extracted from what may appear to be gibberish. Entirety of the moment may have to take place at an instant. If not reacted in a matter of time, crucial accomplishments may be missed out. Whereas a new modernism may have stumbled upon. It will be very ambitious and demanding to trace back what has been missed.

Pursuing the past and repeating the carbon copy miscalculation will certainly drive apprehension. As a result key competitors will lead the course leaving others behind.

How can this be, even possible? Inbound data traffic is so vast and boundless, there may be no abundant duration for analysis. Trying to understand the endless colossal content certainly necessitates guidance, cooperation and advice from the dearest of all the AI.

Therefore is it still valid to invest to learning first? Allocating precious intellectual capital to preparation and refinement may not contribute to competency reskilling. On the other hand reaching to a snap conclusion will demand a tremendous upskilling.

Every instance counts towards unspringing barricades, like sailing against the wind.

Thus plunging into lessons learned from every circumstance will enable expertise elevation from Agnostic to Savvy in no time.

Out of all that the take could be redesigning the learning system from scratch. Geared to, understanding fast-approaching judgement conception, modern education should be rejuvenated.

Embracing tools to facilitate Reskilling/Upskilling will provide the means to augment capabilities. Achievement would than be possible with a holistic concept to advancement.

The term "feedback" suggests an echo. A signal bouncing off the past and returning to the present. While universally accepted as a tool for improvement, traditional feedback often suffers from a fundamental flaw:

It forces us to revisit an event, decision, or behaviour that is already complete. This backward focus inevitably triggers defensiveness, ego protection, and the instinct to justify actions, diverting energy away from actual change. We spend time litigating what was, instead of designing what will be. Isn’t it the time to discontinue this phrase which hosts rather a negative view?

Especially once you start a conversation with such an undesirable opening. By the way positive or negative feedback expressions does not rarely relax the environment any way. Don’t forget with feedback, destructive language is already, implicitly hidden in the session.

Before diving deep let’s start with a definition from Cambridge Dictionary:

Content “information, images, video, etc. that are included as part of something such as a website”

Context “the situation within which something exists or happens, and that can help explain it“

Fascinating connected words that have shaped my entire life. Specifically throughout my business career during which I regularly presented facts & figures. These have repeatedly been leveraged by the surrounding circumstances. Without the context the content may have no meaning like date/time/location or market dynamics at the instant of identification. Therefore I treat both concepts with intriguing admiration.

They are delicately interconnected and understanding both concepts will deliver meaning to what needs to be achieved.

Accuracy of content has regularly depended on the preciseness and sharpness of information gathered. Whether being an analysis of trends already happened in the past or a prediction of the future to come. This could be a business proposal delivery where an investment decision is to be taken. It could be admiring a beautiful masterpiece trying to figure out the expressions. Content may be clear at first yet each and every one would be observing a dissimilar version of the same phenomenon.

Therefore it would be absolutely crucial to reflect the reality with certainty. Not forgetting it is the audience who will perceive their own versions of context. Once the context, is reshaped in the minds of listener or watchers, its influence on the content may blur the actual image that is planned to be conveyed. Every individual will generate their own illusion of certainty.

Consequently it is wise to prepare so to understand who the recipients are before dispatching any material. Participants’ back ground will certainly reveal some of their insides and biases. Tuning one’s subject matter with respect to a group of attendees desire should not be regarded as a divergent path. It should not be treated as an ability to be able to reframe reality which has never changed in the first place.

I have personally witnessed indistinguishable stories on the surface however with very different versions in the reflections. Content was similar yet the context is modified or remodelled successes to failures and wise versa. I remember being cautious while observing carefully to what I am facing. Sensing my own thoughts may manipulate my realisation of described information.

Thus whenever a time approaches to emphasise a point on stage the moment needs to be envisioned as an opportunity. Later to be celebrated as a convincing experience which can be repeated over and over again. Therefore once exposed to the awareness of behaviour knowledge, deciphering both context and content creation should be a piece of cake.

Nevertheless adjusting context & content it is not meant to be a tool to fabricate misleading or improper foresight. On the other hand if the approach is not challenged then the scale will be tilted towards a perfect solution which may not fulfil all the objectives.

As a summary designing a content under the umbrella of context needs a prudent attention. One should never assume everything goes as long as the context satisfies the meeting attendees. Bear in mind the quality of vigilant collection of facts within the content matters the most.

Today we will engage in a conversation covering technology, how to utilise scientific knowledge, for conflict resolution, peace building and encouraging sustainable positive peace initiatives through media.

Deployment of technology as a competent tool is our purpose of discussion. Understanding consequences, outcomes and repercussions with respect to wide and deep practises.

First of all, it is given a compelling term, simply called Artificial Intelligence. Having a second glimpse to these breath-taking words it may reveal its true identity.

Starts with letters ART. Wow isn’t that something. Science & Arts hand in hand, its mathematics, algorithms, literature, and fine arts defining and composing a harmonious symphony for humanity. AI is learning keenly and swiftly. Its Generating crisp blends of guidance. Will it be a unique appliance to inspire peace building as an art/science? Combination. Well we will try to indulge in a broader view of technology including AI, Social Media and main stream Media.

I don’t know what it is to be Young

Orson Welles what a great person whom I admired the most. When I watched his unforgettable film “Citizen Kane” I may not have realised its entire potential back then.

Ever since, I have been learning from this ubiquitous film in search of “rosebud”. Only such a brilliant, creative and imaginative person could have produced these distinguished craft.

I also remember vividly and continue to listen to the soothing song “I know what it is to be young”. Written by Jerry Abbott in 1984 and recited by legendary Orson Welles is a timeless reflection and hence repeatedly resonates in my ears.

It captures the essence of youth and passage of time, painting a picture of youthful exuberance and the inevitable march of time. It reminds us to cherish the present and to learn from the past.

In simple terms it is the size of space that is occupied as you live and work. Astounding knowledge of flowering plants has taken me deep into pure reality. I have noticed that nature prefers colours not to please humans but rather to attract insects. Offering their pollen as a source of nutrition so that in return gaining strength and food to regenerate their species. Insects fly from flower to flower to collect nectar. In the meantime indirectly transporting pollen and seeds.

To my stunning astonishment I realised that insect’s preference of colour and fragrance is not always in line with my inclinations. Insects selected flowers that not necessarily produce finest scents to human appreciation. One such plant attracted so many bees and we had to take it out of the garden because we were not keen on the odour.

As we dwelled into more colour and smell the garden exhibited and displayed its attractiveness and orderliness to our human friends.

On the other hand if not conceived as potential food source the plants were destined to perish. Therefore this would not be a sustainable process and needs constant care of the gardener. The matter worsens as, sunlight, water beyond rain fall, pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers are, main ingredients to nurture and preserve this charm and elegance.

In a nut shell ample amount of resources are to be invested to a short term glimpse of this sparkle. Yet the real customers such as the bees will pay little or no desire to experience this delicacy since the product would not satisfy their purpose of longevity.

Therefore the grass may look greener from outside to those who see what they expect to see. I am not hinting that this is not proper. We all need to come out of anxiety and feel overwhelmed to witness such a unique perspective. Recently I have noticed a deterioration of energy in the executive teams. They appear to have a degradation in their positive attitude and behave dismal and display a somber face. Their common concern is the recognition of a bleak forthcoming.

-Why bleak you may wonder?

Understanding the approaching uncertainty and how to distinguish themselves from mainstream. Encountering these challenges are very serious. Sitting idle and waiting for the inevitable will not serve any purpose. Something has to be done what? and how? and when is the best time? Besides no adventure with the unknown technology is a precondition.

So let me tell you the story of the DODO bird. Once upon a time used to live in #Mauritius Island without the interaction of humans. There seems no reason why this bird ought to actualise wings. With no natural predator exposure, there was no need to fly and run away from imminent threat. Has extremely well adapted itself to the environment where food was plentiful. Hiding deep inside the marsh land protection was ample.
